Continuation of pregnancy

Pregnancy follow-up, which generally begins between weeks 8 and 12, is available from :

  • doctors
  • midwives
  • gynecologists
  • nurse‧ère‧s practitioner‧ne‧s specialist‧e‧s.

Continuing a pregnancy may require lifestyle adjustments, such as changes in living space, additional expenses or help with daily tasks. Pregnant people can feel external pressure and a sense of loss of individuality. For those on migration paths, social or financial issues may require additional support.

Only the pregnant person can decide whether or not to continue the pregnancy. Le‧a partner can have his say, but has no legal recourse to influence the decision. If he/she is not married‧e to the pregnant person, he/she can choose not to be registered‧e on the birth certificate, but the pregnant person can request legal recognition of paternity, which could result in an obligation for alimony.
