Adoption

In Quebec, adoption services are managed by youth centers. People considering adoption should contact the Centre Jeunesse or the adoption service of the CISSS or CIUSSS in their region for information.

No official decision is made before the birth, but it is possible to find out more during pregnancy.

After delivery, a consent form must be signed to legalize the adoption. There is a 30-day period in which to reverse the decision without justification, after which the child must go to court to regain parental rights, the decision being taken in the child’s best interests. Once a placement order has been issued, there is no legal recourse to regain rights.1.

If the‧a partner agrees with the decision, he might feel relieved‧e and participate in the adoption process with the pregnant person’s consent.

In the event of disagreement, he or she may feel an injustice, and if parenthood is recognized, he or she may oppose adoption, provided that he or she is prepared to assume responsibility for the child and can guarantee his or her development.
