There are several methods of contraception, each with its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of cost, effectiveness, availability, administration of the contraceptive, side effects and impact on sexual relations.
The S.O.S. Grossesse nurse offers counseling sessions to help you choose the most suitable method, with a pro-choice approach. The service is currently on hiatus, and we’ll let you know when it’s possible to book an appointment again.
Here is our brochure on contraceptive methodsFAQ – Contraceptive methods
Is parental consent required to take hormonal contraception?
From the age of 14, you have the right to confidentiality for health care, including contraceptive prescriptions, pregnancy termination, gynecological examinations and STBBI screening tests, without needing your parents’ consent or even informing them.
Is it true that contraception always causes side effects?
False. Side effects of hormonal contraception, such as blood loss, headaches and breast tenderness, vary from person to person and often appear at the beginning of the contraceptive method. Consult a physician in the event of significant side effects.
Is it true that hormonal contraceptives cause weight gain?
In general, hormonal contraceptives do not cause weight gain, except for the contraceptive injection, which can lead to an average gain of 5.4 lbs after one year.
What is the difference between typical and perfect effectiveness?
Typical efficacy takes account of real-life conditions such as forgetfulness or drug interactions, while perfect efficacy is measured in a controlled environment, such as a laboratory.
What should you do if there was a missed dose, a break, or incorrect use of contraception?
Contact your pharmacist to assess the risk in this case. If an unwanted pregnancy is possible, emergency methods can be proposed.
